Commitment to Accessibility

At SignalWalker, we are committed to making our web application accessible and usable for everyone. Our goal is to meet the requirements of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at conformance level AA. These guidelines define how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities.

Accessibility is continuously considered during development. We use semantic HTML, ARIA attributes, keyboard navigation, and ensure sufficient color contrasts to provide an accessible experience.

Standards and Guidelines

This accessibility statement applies to the SignalWalker web application at https://signalwalker.com. We follow these standards and legal frameworks:

  • WCAG 2.1 (Level AA) – Web Content Accessibility Guidelines by W3C
  • BFSG – Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz (German Accessibility Strengthening Act, effective June 28, 2025)
  • EN 301 549 – European standard for digital accessibility
  • BITV 2.0 – German Accessible Information Technology Ordinance

Our Measures

To ensure accessibility, we have implemented the following measures:

  • Semantic HTML structure with proper use of headings, lists, and landmark elements
  • ARIA attributes for dynamic content and interactive components
  • Full keyboard navigation for all functions
  • Sufficient color contrasts per WCAG 2.1 AA (minimum contrast ratio 4.5:1)
  • Text alternatives for non-text content (alt texts for images)
  • Responsive design for various screen sizes and zoom levels
  • Focus indicators for all interactive elements
  • Screen reader support through semantic markup
  • Avoidance of content that may trigger photosensitive epilepsy

Known Limitations

Despite our efforts, the following limitations are currently known. We are continuously working to address them:

  • Drag-and-Drop Interactions: The Signal/Noise board and Eisenhower Matrix views use complex drag-and-drop interactions that are not yet fully operable via keyboard. We are working on alternative controls.
  • Animated Transitions: Some UI elements use animations and transitions that are not fully disabled when "prefers-reduced-motion" is enabled. We are working on complete support for this setting.
  • Voice Transcription: The audio recording and transcription feature requires mouse or touch interaction for recording controls. Pure keyboard control is planned.
  • AI-Generated Thumbnails: Automatically generated images currently lack detailed alt texts as the content is AI-generated. We are working on an automated description feature.
  • Complex Forms: Some settings pages contain more complex forms whose error messages and validation hints still need improvement.

Testing Procedures

Accessibility is verified through the following procedures:

  • Automated testing with Lighthouse and axe DevTools
  • Manual keyboard navigation testing
  • Screen reader testing (NVDA, VoiceOver)
  • Color contrast verification with Colour Contrast Analyser

We strive to continuously improve the accessibility of our application. If you encounter barriers or have suggestions for improvement, we welcome your feedback.
